Rehmannia root is used to replenish vitality, and in the treatment of a wide range of ailments, including anemia, abnormal cell growth, bleeding, constipation, heart weakness, coughs, fever and premature ejaculation, dizziness and palpitations due to anemia or blood deficiency, chronic tidal fever, night sweats, dry mouth, candida, autoimmune diseases, lumbago, hepatitis, the effects of rheumatoid arthritis, injured bones, urinary tract problems, lower back pain, and nocturnal emissions. The prepared root is warmer in action than the raw root, and is useful for relieving fatigue, building the body during recovery or illness, lowering blood sugar and blood pressure, and it is given to women for menstrual irregularities, infertility, and to stop postpartum hemorrhage. Rehmannia root is also used in men’s potency formulas, especially combined with Ginseng or Astragalus. 
 
Rehmannia is very popular in Chinese medicine, where it is considered to be a longevity tonic, and one of the 50 fundamental herbs. It is used to treat a plethora of medical disorders, most notably anemia, menopausal symptoms, bleeding, hypoglycemia, and ailments of the heart, kidney, or liver. The species name glutinosa comes from glutinous, referring to the sticky nature of the root. The root may be prepared as a decoction. In order to prevent feelings of heaviness or indigestion, prepare with Cardamom or Ginger.
